Project Description

Create your own startup in Cape Town with Corkscrew.

Cape Town is at the epicenter of business innovation in South Africa and is recognized as the leading destination for startups in Africa. With very favorable exchange rates and a deep talent pool, tech companies from around the world are looking to establish a presence in Cape Town. Within the backdrop of this rapidly evolving sector of the South African economy, we are thrilled to offer a special program that combines guided mentorship in a classroom environment with experiential learning.

  • Have you ever wanted to start your own business?
  • Do you admire the achievements of entrepreneurs?
  • Do you consider yourself creative but have no academic background in business?
  • Do you have a university degree but are currently trying to figure out what to do with your life?

If your answer is yes to any of these questions, we have the perfect solution for you! VACorps is partnered with Corkscrew Experienceships to provide you with an intense, month-long course that is situated within Cape Town’s exciting startup ecosystem. The Corkscrew instructors, who are successful entrepreneurs, will guide you through the process of conceptualizing and launching your own business. At the culmination of the course, you will pitch your business in “the Bear Pit” as a panel of judges review and critique your idea. The winning team will receive a $2000 prize and the opportunity to receive continued mentorship from the Corkscrew community.

“Young professionals and students deserve the best career accelerators possible. Our unique Startup Experienceships provide the perfect environment to stay ahead of the crowd. Receive training in entrepreneurship and business startup. Mix with exciting startups. Meet inspiring leaders. Develop a startup idea. Conquer the world.”-Corkscrew

There are no prerequisites to participating in a Corkscrew Cape Town course. A good work ethic, creativity and enthusiasm are all qualities that will ensure your success in the class and position you well to compete for the top prize. The class size will range from 8 to 20 participants and is limited to specific dates throughout the year (i.e., you must act quickly if you want to reserve your spot in the next Corkscrew Cape Town session).

If you have a flexible schedule, it is highly recommended that you participate in both the VACorps internship program and the Corkscrew Cape Town course. We will help you work out the logistics of this and if you would like to consider this combination, please let us know!
