VACorps Program Housing explained:
Finding suitable short-term, fully furnished internship housing in Cape Town is a challenge without any local knowledge or assistance. When you join our program, we will help you locate Cape Town internship accommodation for the duration of your stay in South Africa. We have partnered with a local housing provider, Rent-a-Room, to offer a range of fully-furnished accommodation options suitable to any participant’s living needs. Your housing situation is an important factor in the overall enjoyment of your internship experience in Cape Town.
Prior to your arrival in South Africa, we will put you in touch with our housing provider as VAC interns do receive priority.
Our program housing is located in the colourful and vibrant neighbourhood of Observatory, Cape Town. All houses are conveniently located close to grocery stores, restaurants, and public transportation. Watch a VACorps intern give a tour of Observatory to learn more about the neighbourhood you will call home for the duration of your internship in Cape Town.
Program housing is clean, secure and will give you the opportunity to live with other interns in our program. The general atmosphere of our program housing is friendly and social. When living in program housing, you will have your own fully furnished, private room (i.e., no roommate) and will share the common areas of your house with other participants. When you first join our program, you will receive a program housing document that describes your accommodation options in detail. Program Housing is offered on a first come, first serve basis, so participants who join the program well in advance of their intended starting date will often get their first choice of housing.
Please note that program housing through our provider is optional, and rent is not included in the VAC program fee.
