"First off, I just want to say that interning in Cape Town was truly amazing, and well worth the money spent to come here. An experience like this, interning in a foreign country, is so much more beneficial than anything you’ll get in a classroom. I learned more in the first few weeks at my internship than I did in one entire semester of school back home. Some things just can’t be explained in a classroom.
My internship was very time consuming, and definitely kept me busy while I was in Cape Town. Some weeks I worked well over 40 hours. There were a lot of early mornings (4 a.m. early) and a lot of late nights. But work was fun, and I can honestly say that I looked forward to it every day. I had the opportunity to work on the set of multiple photo shoots, and multiple television commercials. The days on set were the highlight of my internship. It was a really cool thing to be a part of.
VAC was also great, and super welcoming from the second I arrived in Cape Town. They are always available if you need them and they do a really good job creating a comforting environment for you, while also letting you be independent and do things on your own. The Friday activities, and weekend trip to Hermanus, were also a lot of fun, and gave me the opportunity to see and do a lot of things that I may not necessarily have thought of doing otherwise. I met a lot of really cool people here, and I loved that I got the chance to meet and live with people from so many different places around the world.
I’m really glad that I chose to intern in Cape Town as opposed to just visiting Cape Town. By interning here you are truly immersed in the South African culture every day, instead of just observing from the outside. I had been planning to come intern in Cape Town about two years before I was finally able to, so I’m very happy that it all worked out and that I came to Cape Town when I did. It was a great experience and it will definitely be missed!"
