Genre of Internship: Business
Dates of Participation: Between May 2009 & July 2009

“I would say that going to Cape Town through VACorps was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The combination of the internship, other interns and activities in Cape Town made it an unbelievable experience.  I have done many other summer programs, searching for an experience that would challenge me both educationally and culturally.  VACorps fulfilled everything I was searching for, and so much more.

The internship: I worked for African Eagle as a marketing intern. This was a pretty sweet internship because I got to go on different tours provided through Cape Town and then write about them after, for African Eagle's brochure and website. I also learned about South African politics when it comes to corporations after they gained independence, and the continuous struggle to give everyone equal opportunities. The people I worked with were extremely friendly and made a great deal of effort to give me the experience I was looking for. VACorps works very hard to make sure that they place interns at locations that suit each individual intern.

Other interns: I found that almost every intern had the same mindset as I did when coming to Cape Town - we all wanted to gain some real world experience, meet new people, live in a new place and go out and do adventurous things; hiking, scuba diving, and skydiving, just to name a few.  All the interns through VACorps are very fun, friendly, and inclusive. I made amazing friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Cape Town itself: The city is absolutely amazing, and there was always an abundance of things to do. In the six weeks I was there, I was never once bored. I'm a pretty adventurous person so I loved all the hiking and scuba diving available, among many other things. You will always have something to do in Cape Town, it's an absolute blast. Interns are always finding new opportunities and activities.

The combination of everything provided by VACorps and the location made my time in Cape Town something I will never forget.”
