"Cape Town, South Africa was a natural destination for me when the recent economic recession postponed when I would begin working at my Firm. Having recently graduated from law school and with a fair bit of traveling and overseas adventure already notched on my belt, the tip of Africa seemed an ideal place to explore and get experience in state-level human rights advocacy whilst working for the South African Human Rights Commission. The VACorps seemed the best South African-based organization to handle my requirements and they did not disappoint.
VACorps employees (friends, really) stayed abreast of my work with the SAHRC in the legal and parliamentary departments and ensured that any problems I had with my internship were promptly rectified. This attention to detail spilled over into my social life as the VACorps employees led exciting day-trips and were always ready to help with killing a late-afternoon slow-down with scuba lessons, surf suggestions, or suggestions as to which pub to frequent. The organization is adept at measuring their level of involvement with interns so that no member feels either over-protected or abandoned. This kind of personalized safety-net is most welcome.
For those in college, graduate school, or those simply looking for a change of pace in an exotic locale, South Africa, as facilitated by the Volunteer Adventure Corps, is a fantastic choice. For those looking for an experience that goes beyond that previously mentioned, the Volunteer Adventure Corps is the only choice."
-Josh Dilk participated in a human rights law internship through VACorps from September 2009 to February of 2010.
