Hugo is an LLB graduate from Durham University. He joined the VACorps program in January 2022, and participated in a Law internship at a corporate law firm.
“Everyone here was exactly what I’d hoped for – friendly, active and enthusiastic. I did my internship in a fast-paced corporate law firm, and everyone there was lovely. I was able to put into practice my legal research skills on some complex client matters which was very rewarding. My biggest achievements, however, were the leaps and bounds of experience I gained in legal drafting. This covered all sorts of agreements and contracts and not only did I learn from drafting them myself, but I also learned a lot from watching my colleagues intricately discuss the specific wording of clauses when they were drafting. The people I met while I was in Cape Town, as much as my internship, pushed me to the limits of myself with hikes, adventures, and activities all over the Western Cape.
