Chris joined the VACorps program in January 2023 as part of his Gap year and participated in a human rights internship.
I decided to come to Cape Town to do an internship because I wanted something different from my mundane 9-5. I wanted to meet completely new people, and experience places that are unfamiliar to me. This experience gave me a better perspective on the world I live in. During my time here I learned so much about myself by facing challenges and living independently. Whether taking a walk to clear my mind in the beautiful sea point promenade or taking on seemingly indomitable mountains there was always something to reflect on within myself and my surroundings. I feel like I have gained independence and confidence in an uncomfortable and unfamiliar environment and I found a home away from home thanks to the amazing community at VACorps!
