Coffee Shops and Cafe’s

Observatory has a wonderful coffee culture, and its many coffee shops and cafes are almost always filled with the students and artsy freelancers that live in the neighbourhood.  We compiled a list of our favourites:

Saint James Cafe: Full of atmosphere, and beautifully decorated. Their coffee is seriously good, as are their brownies, bagels and pumpkin spice & cream cheese muffins. Be sure to make use of the vouchers you will receive come voucher in your VACorps welcome pack!

Marley Coffee: This place is epic, so be sure to try it out.  It is an extremely laid-back spot with chilled tunes and great Ethiopian blend coffee. Pop in for an all-day build it yourself English breakfast (starts at R20) and a fresh juice. Their lunch selection is a no-frills affair with simple yet delicious sandwiches, wraps and burgers on offer. Sink into their couch and take advantage of the complimentary Wi-Fi.

Dolce Bakery: For delicious coffee, and yummy baked goods, bagels and sandwiches.  This coffee shop is very popular with the VACorps staff, as it is close to our offices, and offers really great food at good prices.

Nourished: This is a wonderful little cafe and juicery that serves all natural organic plant-based smoothies and meals.  The cafe is beautifully decorated in earthly undertones, with lots of plants and natural light.  The staff are very friendly, and the food absolutely delicious. A must try!

Rust: Situated very close to the Observatory Train Station with unique decor and very good coffee.  This is a great place to grab some pre-work coffee and a bite to eat.

Mango Ginger: This is a quaint and charming coffee shop and bakery situated on Lower Main Road. It offers delicious, nutritious and home-made food, and is a wonderful spot for a healthy breakfast or lunch.
