Important Information Regarding Your Departure Date

Make sure you book a return ticket prior to your arrival in South Africa (do not arrive on a one-way ticket!) and ensure that you choose the correct departure date. Most participants are issued with a 90-day visitors visa upon arrival in South Africa (please refer to our Visa Information page to find out if you qualify for this type of visa).  You are not permitted to stay in the country for more than 90 days unless you have applied for a visa that allows you to do so prior to arrival or decide to extend your visitor’s visa once you have arrived in South Africa. Is it also very important that you arrive in South Africa with a pre-booked return flight that is within your 90-day visa limit.  Do not arrive on a one-way ticket or a return ticket that is booked more than 90 days after your arrival date! South African immigration/border control will either deny you entry into the country and send you home,  or make you (re) book a return flight on the spot! The Time&Date.com website will assist in calculating your visa expiry date based on your arrival date. Even if you plan to apply for a visa extension, it is very important that your original flight itinerary includes a departure flight that is within the original 90-day visa limit. If your extension visa application is successful, you will then need to contact your airline to and change your departure date.
