There’s a saying: “If you set foot on African soil, you shouldn’t leave without tasting the food made by the people themselves—for the full cultural experience.” Food is one of the most meaningful ways to connect with culture, and this session offers exactly that.
As part of next week’s Culture Series, we’ll be hosting a Xhosa food tasting experience led by guest speaker Ivy from Ivy’s Kitchen. The session introduces participants to African cuisine by exploring food traditions, key ingredients, and the cultural significance behind everyday and ceremonial meals.
Ivy will share insights into how food reflects community, history, and identity, followed by a guided tasting. Dishes may include umngqusho (samp and beans), pap (maize porridge), chakalaka, and other traditional foods, each offering a glimpse into Xhosa home cooking and shared meals.
