I chose to come to Cape Town because I wanted the chance to experience a new culture and enjoy meaningful new experiences. I felt that an internship abroad would help me understand how the health system and health research differ from Australia. During my internship, I enjoyed learning about the various studies my host organization was involved in, what they were researching, and how that research was being carried out. This helped me gain a deeper understanding of the health landscape in South Africa and the way the health system functions. I also received valuable career advice and recommendations from my supervisors, which I will continue to use moving forward.

Throughout my time in Cape Town, I met many new friends from around the world and had the opportunity to live independently while gaining meaningful work experience. I grew more confident in myself, becoming more independent and outgoing. Cape Town is a beautiful city with a wide range of activities, which I enjoyed both on my own and with friends.
