“My time in Cape Town has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As a psychology major in the States, working at St. Anne’s has helped me become a more rounded worker while in the process of figuring out exactly what population I am most interested in working with in my future. Another incredibly rewarding part of my volunteer work at St. Anne’s has been teaching the HIV/AIDS class to women at the shelter. I believe that I have learned as much from them as they have learned from me. HIV/AIDS education is such an important subject in South Africa and I am grateful that I have been able to play my small part in contributing to this. The discussions and debates I have taken part in with the women at St. Anne’s has been both captivating and educational for all parties involved.

“I could not have picked a better place to spend my summer than in Cape Town. There is so much to do and see. You can do most of this stress-free as VAC does a very good job of making the transition to South Africa painless. I am grateful to have met some amazing people and grateful for the change to make some life-long friendships with people I have met both through VAC and outside of VAC. I will be returning to South Africa very soon!”
