What Cape Town actually costs, and what it would cost elsewhere
Pick an internship or a semester, how long you’re staying, a room and where you’re flying from. You get an itemised Cape Town estimate, then the same stay priced in the ten cities US students actually go to, London, Dublin, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Florence, Tokyo and Sydney: program, housing, food, getting around, the flight, insurance, pocket money, and the ten things you’d actually want to do. Then the honest question: what if you stayed home and did a paid internship instead?
Your stay
Housing at Rent-A-Room is included in the semester price, so room grade does not change the total here.
Standard internship is ten weeks. Anything from four to twelve is fine. The program fee is the same, only housing and living costs change.
The other cities are priced at the same level: shared-flat basic, private room, or ensuite / studio.
Typical June–July round-trip economy fare. Deal-hunting can shave $200–400 off any of them.
Each row is the same kind of experience, priced in each city. Untick anything you’d skip.
