“I had a great time in South Africa! I had many amazing and memorable experiences from snorkeling with seals, going on safari, hugging elephants and ostriches, surfing in Muizenberg, hiking gorgeous mountain trails, (almost!) getting mugged by a baboon at Cape of Good Hope, to paragliding off of signal hill! Cape Town is an amazing city with amazing people and a vibrant energy! Working in Khayelitsha community medical clinic also gave me a new perspective on health care. South African healthcare is very amazing and is centered on the concept that health is a basic human right and that everyone should have safe and equitable access to medications and health services. Both Canadian and South African health care are faced with their own challenges and it was an amazing opportunity to be able to compare and contrast the two systems and to develop a new perspective on health care provision.”
