I was extremely lucky to be placed at Maitland Cottage Home to work as a physiotherapist. This was my first experience in pediatrics and I enjoyed every day I got to work there. I was able to learn how to become more independent and apply what I had learned in school while working with the children. My goal was to keep my internship the focus of my time here in South Africa. While I did get the opportunity to see a lot of South Africa’s beauty, take part in awesome activities and meet some great people – my fondest memories will always be the children I got to work with and the amount I learned throughout my internship. My communication skills and cultural competence improved during my 10 weeks of living in Cape Town and my outlook on many aspects of life has changed. My experience will benefit me in many ways, both personally and professionally.
