My experiences working as an intern in Cape Town have been some of the most amazing experiences of my entire life. I have been immersed in a wonderful culture, learned snippets of a new language, made friends with some of the locals, and seen some of the most amazing sights. Volunteer Adventure Corps provided me with opportunities to go to some wonderful places and I am so grateful for all the experiences I have had through them. While I am so sad to leave this beautiful city where opportunities are endless, I know that I will take all of my experiences and all the things I have learned home as they have certainly had huge effects on my life. Working at Saartjie Baartman Centre has greatly humbled me and given me an entirely new perspective on how fortunate I have been throughout my life. The women and children I worked with showed me their strength and need to fight for their rights, and though the work was difficult and sometimes emotionally draining, I was, and continue to be, inspired by them every single day. I have learned more in the past 3 months about myself as a person and as a social worker, and the South African culture, than I could of ever imagined and I am so grateful for all the experiences that taught me these things. As I prepare to leave Cape Town, there is a sadness for the loss of a culture that I have become a part of the past 3 months, but I will carry a little part of Cape Town with me for the rest of my life. Thank you to Volunteer Adventure Corps for making this making all of this possible!
