I never could have anticipated the amount of opportunities and experiences I would have when I decided to intern through VAC. Learning and working in Cape Town allowed me to walk in a world different than my own. It challenged my beliefs and opened my eyes to a new way of doing things, especially in my human services work. I have met some of the greatest people and expanded my cultural awareness exponentially. VAC supported both my transition into South Africa as well as gave me the ability to lead my own trip. Somewhere between the mundane school assignments and slew of responsibility back in the States I will always be nostalgic for my time spent in Cape Town because there’s no place I’d rather be.
