Jocelyn Hebish

Jocelyn studies at UCLA in the United States. She joined VAC in June 2026 and completed a maternal health internship with a South African nonprofit organization, where she gained practical exposure to live births, epidural placements and the labor ward, while counseling new bookings and providing support to mothers during labor.

I had an amazing experience with VAC! Being able to experience the various cultures of Cape Town while working at such an impactful internship site meant the world to me. I am incredibly grateful for the experience and look forward to returning to Cape Town soon!

During my internship, I watched live births, epidural placements, and spent time in the labor ward. The organization is a nonprofit working in maternal health, and I helped counsel new bookings and provided support to mothers during labor.

I also appreciated the support from VAC, the weekly activities, and the Culture Series. There was lots of guidance before arriving, and meeting the VAC staff during orientation was a highlight.
