Jeremy is studying postgraduate law, sociology, and economics at Sciences Po Paris. He joined the VACorps program in January 2019 and participated in a refugee internship at an NGO that provides support, education, and integration services to immigrants.
“I chose Cape Town to mix improvement of my English and journey in Africa. I wanted to do an internship to volunteer and acquire professional experience where I can help people in need. I met a variety of people from different countries, which is something I didn’t expect but find really agreeable. The city allowed me to do something different each weekend which is really important for me due to my long stay in South Africa. I work on a program that helps refugees and migrants to pass a degree online from American University. I loved the bonds that I created with the students that I helped teach. I learned about myself that I can be good at 1 vs 1 relation in order to convey knowledge. I really feel that I am doing something that will help them to integrate into the labor market in the future.I loved the different landscapes that you can find in Cape Town, especially the meeting between the mountains and the sea. I will miss people from my internship, especially from Basp with the staff and the students. I stayed for 8 months but I think 6 months is sufficient enough to discover Cape Town.”
