Nicolet, pictured above at center, participated in a broadcast journalism internship at a local television station in Cape Town.
“I chose Cape Town as the place to intern abroad because it is the perfect blend of aesthetically beautiful, historically rich, and culturally diverse. I most loved the people I met in Cape Town while interning here. My internship helped me grow professionally by allowing me to learn new skills and sharpen the ones I already have so I can move forward with confidence. Personally, it allowed me to work closely with people of entirely different backgrounds and allowed me to learn about many different walks of life.
I will never forget the very first feature I produced from beginning to end all on my own (it was exhilarating sitting in the control room watching it play out!). I have been here for exactly 90 days and am not ready to leave! I most loved the mindset Capetonians have about life, it really allowed me to sit back and reflect on what I find most important to me. I would absolutely recommend VACorps to others, it facilitated a job in the exact field I aspire to be in which I otherwise may not have found. While I did not go to many of the functions offered by VACorps because I was often too busy at my internship site, it was comforting knowing that if anything happened I had that support system behind me despite being so far from home.”
