Shoeb is studying public health at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. He joined the VACorps program in 2019, where he participated in a medical internship in Zimbabwe.
“This trip was the most relevant pre-med extracurricular experiences I have had throughout my college experience. The trip brought nearly complete cultural immersion while also maintaining a strong service objective. I was fortunate enough to have had an extensive academic background to support our goals during the trip. As an HDFS major, many of my classes have been focused on public health. The knowledge gained in these classes was directly related to my experience in Zimbabwe. Furthermore, I am on the pre-med track, and the experiences gained in Zimbabwe have been invaluable to my career goal of becoming a doctor.”
