Janna is studying a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and health studies at Dickenson College. She joined the VACorps program in May 2018 and participated in a public health internship at an NGO that specializes in medical research and implementation

“I absolutely loved my time in Cape Town as a VACorps intern and I would do it over again in a heartbeat! While I was in Cape Town I completed a Public Health internship where I got to see and work on behind the scenes logistics of tuberculosis research and intervention program. I learned so much from the work I did and from my co-workers. One of the highlights of my internship was the networking opportunities that came with informational interviews with my co-workers. They answered a lot of questions about grad school degrees, internships, how to be successful in this field, and future people that I can contact both in South Africa and internationally. When I wasn’t at work, I could often be found on one of the many breathtaking hikes surrounding Cape Town, surfing, enjoying a warm cup of coffee, and catching sunsets with my friends. I am so grateful for all the support that the VACorps staff offered me during my time here including the weekly activities, the meal plan and always having VACorps staff available to talk. Interning abroad with VACorps was an amazing opportunity and exploring South Africa was unforgettable. I could not have asked for a better summer!”
