Olivia is studying engineering and sustainability at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She joined the VACorps Program in June 2021 and participated in a sustainability internship at a local NGO.
“Coming to Cape Town, South Africa has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. It is the most diverse and beautiful city with endless things to do and explore. The VACorps program allowed me to establish the most wonderful friendships with like-minded people, that I know will last a lifetime. For my conservation internship, I was able to look into different ways the V&A Waterfront could implement reusable containers. This was extremely rewarding because I got to see the difficulties that come along with implementing these types of programs. Waterfront was a place I frequently visited so it made the project more engaging as I knew it could make a real impact. I will be forever grateful for this program and my time in South Africa, and I am very sad to say goodbye to the VACorps staff and all the other wonderful people I have met during my time here.”
